Thursday 31st October – Hallowe’en Display

imageTonight is Hallowe’en, the evening when it is traditional to stay safely at home and read a spooky book! To help you find something suitably scary to read, we have a display of books about vampires, ghosts, werewolves, zombies and other terrifying aspects of the paranormal. Take care to avoid the giant spiders whilst choosing your book…

Wednesday 30th October – Flipside

Flipside - lost in spaceNovember’s edition of Flipside is here for those of you who like to read about gadgets and technology. There are some great articles this month including a really interesting one about why facial mapping is helping to make the next generation of games more compulsive by capturing every movement and emotion on the character’s faces.

There are also articles about space; drag cars; making music videos and a whole host of other things. You can pick up Flipside at the library desk.

Tuesday 29th October – Book of the Week

Demon DentistDemon Dentist is by the very, very funny David Walliams and is the story of Alfie and his dread of dentists, and of what happens when the scary Miss Root comes to town…

The blurb on the back says:

Darkness had come to the town. Strange things were happening in the dead of night. Children would put a tooth under their pillow for the tooth fairy, but in the morning they would wake up to find… a dead slug; a live spider; hundreds of earwigs creeping and crawling beneath their pillow.

Evil was at work. But who or what was behind it?

We have lots of David Walliams’ books in the library – ask at the library desk if you need help to find them.

Thursday 17th October – Warner Brothers Harry Potter Experience, by AA

Sleeping dragonA week ago, on Thursday 10th October, the London Trip went to the Warner Bros. Harry Potter studio tour.

To start with we did a workshop about being in the film industry, which was extremely interesting. We learned about what people do who work in the film industry and we saw a few props from the actual sets. After the workshop, we began our tour.

The start of the tour we were all put into a room where we saw a short clip of the Harry Potter takeover. We then entered the cinema room where we saw a recorded clip from Daniel, Emma and Rupert (Harry, Hermione and Ron) about the tour.

We then went into the Great Hall where we saw many actors costumes and some props from the films.

The next room consisted of many other props and sets such as The Chamber Of  Secrets, Gryffindor boys dorm and Dumbledore’s office.

We then proceeded into the courtyard where we could buy Butterbeer. From there we went into the creature room where we saw creatures such as Buckbeak the Hippogriff and Aragog the Accromantula.

We then made our way to Diagon Alley where we saw shops such as Olivanders and Flourish and Blott’s . To continue from this we went into a room with paintings and cardboard models from the films.Hogwarts model

From this we proceeded into a room with wand boxes, like the ones from Olivanders, glued into the wall, with the names of everybody who was involved in the process of making the Harry Potter films, including J. J. Rowling.

Lastly we went to the gift shopwhich had lots of things for sale including wands, t-shirts and mugs. We all came out of here with our pockets a little lighter.
