A Monster Calls – film of the book
I am looking forward to this film so much – it’s one of my favourite books. We have it in the library, of course. The film was originally due in June, but the release date keeps on being pushed back… But at least we’ve got the second trailer to watch!
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, reviewed by misssallylockhart
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is a graphic novel, showing her childhood in Iran during revolutions and the war, her adolescence in Europe away from Iran and her return to her home country in her early twenties. This story definitely brings lots of serious topics onto the table but shows how Marjane doesn’t understand how bad things are until she starts to grow up. I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would and I plan to watch the film soon. I recommend this to anyone.
Film of the Book – Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Room by Emma Donoghue
Jack lives with his Ma in Room, a secured single-room outbuilding containing a small kitchen, a bathtub, a wardrobe, a bed, and a TV set. Because it is all he has ever known, Jack believes that only Room and the things it contains are “real.” Room is an outstanding novel by Emma Donoghue that is now also a major motion picture.
Book of the Week – Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransome Riggs
After the violent death of his grandfather, Jacob follows the clues he has left behind to an island off the Welsh Coast and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs.
A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will be a film in September this year.
