Book of the Week – Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
Lady Midnight has to be one of the most eagerly awaited books – I have lost count of the number of people who have asked me for it in the last couple of weeks. To be scrupulously fair, I am letting those who have waited for it read it before I put it on display – although I expect reviews from them! Lady Midnight is the first in a new series – The Dark Artifices – from Cassandra Clare, which is linked to the Mortal Instruments series. The blurb on the back says…
In a secret world where half-angel warriors are sworn to fight demons, parabatai is a sacred word. A parabatai is your partner in battle. A parabatai is your best friend. Parabatai can be everything to each other – but they can never fall in love.
Emma Carstairs is a warrior, a Shadowhunter. She lives for battle. Alongside her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, she patrols Los Angeles, where vampires party on the Sunset Strip, and faeries – the most powerful of supernatural creatures – teeter on the edge of war with Shadowhunters. When the bodies of humans and faeries are found murdered in the same way Emma’s parents were when she was a child, an uneasy alliance is formed. This is Emma’s chance for revenge and Julian’s chance to get back his brother Mark, who is being held by the faerie Courts. All they have to do is solve the murders within two weeks… and before the murderer targets them.
Of course, you could always read the Mortal Instruments series while waiting for Lady Midnight – we have all of them in the Library too.
The Hollow Boy by Jonathan Stroud, reviewed by MG
Lockwood & Co return in the new book The Hollow Boy. A new mystery awaits with a paranormal epidemic spreading throughout London putting the team’s abilities to the test.
I would recommend this book to lovers of the paranormal and fans of the series. The two previous books the Screaming Staircase and the Whispering Skull are recommended reads as well. The Hollow Boy includes witty humour and ghostly surprises. Not for the faint of heart.
Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson, reviewed by fab333
Hunting Lila starts with a bang as Lila is getting mugged by two men but then suddenly the knife they held on her is pointed centimeters away from one of her attackers’ eyes, except no one is holding it. After this incident Lila flees from England to where her brother Jake and more importantly, his best friend Alex live in America. From there on Lila struggles to hide the truth from Alex and Jake but she’s not the only one keeping secrets as she finds out later in the book. Lila throughout the whole book faces problem after problem and explanations she’s always needed to hear, but is she strong enough to do what is needed? I would recommend this book to people who like a good thrilling supernatural book with a little romance as Lila faces fist fights, being on the run, kidnapping and feelings for Alex which might not be as unrequited as we think!
Book Review- Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
Today i finished reading Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. The story is about Nora Gray, she starts the book with her seat being reassigned in her Biology class next to the new boy Patch, who until then she had never spoken to. The story unravels as Patch and Nora’s relationship evolves from acquaintances, to stalking, to love. As Patch begins the book he appears as a suspicious, dark character but is he really the villain in this story? I would recommend this book to people who like supernatural romance but the book does have a dark side with murderous intent.
Book of the Week – Demon Road, by Derek Landy
Derek Landy’s new novel is a road trip with demons!
Amber Lamont is a normal sixteen-year-old. Smart but insecure, she spends most of her time online, where she can avoid her beautiful, aloof parents and their weird friends.
But when a shocking encounter reveals a horrifying family secret, Amber is forced to go on the run. Killer cars, vampires, undead serial killers and red-skinned, horned demons – Amber hurtles from one threat to the next, revealing the terror woven into the very fabric of her life. As her parents close in behind her, Amber’s only chance rests with her fellow travellers, who are not at all what they appear to be…
Demon Road is a scary roller-coaster of a book, which already has a waiting list (sorry), so if you want to read it, ask at the library desk.

Join Nora as she faces betrayal, backstabbing, change, love, loss and a whole lot more.
This book is one of my favourites with romance, adventure and fallen angels – what’s not to love? This book is the third in its series and I would definitely recommend reading them all, but this book in particular shows how your memories make you who you are and without them you’re a different person completely.
