Tuesday 5th November – School Magazine Club

magThe first edition of the new school magazine is hopefully going to be published before Christmas. It covers a variety of issues across the school. It has lots of stuff for girls but stuff for boys too. They still don’t know how pupils are going to access it but are hoping to have one in every staff base. Miss Brown, who runs the club, decided to start a magazine because we don’t already have one and it will inform people about what is going on in the school.

Wednesday 2nd October – Comic Book Club

comic club posterMr Scobie, a new English teacher at our school has started a Comic Book Club. He has done this because there is nothing in the school that already caters to this interest. Their end goal is to create a professional production quality comic book. So far there are 15 members and there are no limitations to numbers. This is a rare opportunity to create something in a fun and enjoyable environment. Mr Scobie’s favourite comic books are “anything DC – the Batman 52 series was good.”

The fantastic poster was created by Cameron in S2 (who has kindly given us permission to post it on the site).

Friday 20th September – Creative Writing Day

pencilLast Friday, several S4 students were taken to the Creative Writing Day conference courtesy of the English teachers. Alan Bisset, Alan Wilson, Keith Gray and many other authors held workshops that taught the students more writing techniques, like the Shark Theory: giving readers a fin (clue) instead of the whole shark (plot) to keep suspense. The students had a lot of fun and learned a lot from this experience.
