Everybody needs an advent calendar!

Christmas Tree

The Booktrust people have put an advent calendar full of author recommendations for good books to read this winter – one each day. Day one, yesterday, had Malorie Blackman recommending A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness (which is one of my favourite books) – why not click on the Christmas Tree to go to the advent calendar and see what is under the flap for today?

After today, the link to the advent calendar will be on the sidebar, so you will be able to get a recommended read for every day until Christmas.

CHARLIE HIGSON

Charlie Higson is the author of the one of the scariest series of teen books I’ve read – about an alternative future where all the adults have turned into zombies. On his website for The Enemy, The Dead and The Fear, you can zombie yourself or look at a gallery of zombie pictures. It’s a good place to check for updates on his latest books or to find out about him and the other books he writes.

To get an idea of how terrifying Higson can be – have a look at the Scared Kid video.

CATHY CASSIDY

Cathy Cassidy writes very popular books – she holds the current ‘Queen of Teen’ award – and she has an amazing web site, with lots of things to do and look at. You could decorate cup cakes, or download screen savers and wallpapers, or find out about her books – I love the updated photo covers.
