National Poetry Day in Scotland

nat-poetry-daypoetry-day-displayToday is National Poetry Day in Scotland – the day when everyone should read at least one poem. Go ahead, why not? This year’s theme is messages, and we have a small display of poetry books at the back of the library; there are others on the shelves.

We also have the poetry postcards, which are free to take away and enjoy. You could even write your own message on one and send it to someone.

Have a great National Poetry Day.

Thursday 4th October – National Poetry Day in Scotland 2012

Today is National Poetry Day, and the theme this year is Stars, so there are poems about stars, planets, astronomy and fame all around the library today. My favourite is the one on the main door of the library, which is by Ian Hamilton Finlay and is made up from the names of fishing boats.

Have a look at all the poems, and tell me which one you like best.

BOOK SPINE POETRY

Have a go!

Photograph them (you can borrow my camera if you are in the Library) and hand them in – I’ll give a (small) prize for the best one.

And then, please, put the books back afterwards…

Thanks to the librarian at James Young High School for the idea.
