S2 Author Visit from Philip Caveney

Philip CaveneyOn Monday the 7th of March West Calder High School S2s received a visit from Philip Caveney aka Danny Weston, the author of Mr Sparks, Seventeen Coffins, the Crow Boy and more. He talked about Edinburgh and its history as this is where a lot of his books are set. He also talked about how he became an author, as he wrote short stories but they wouldnt sell so he decided to write longer ones, he also read to guys in his dorm. At end he took part in a question session.

Mrs Vennall told us that all his books have been taken out from the Library since his visit.

The PiperToday we welcome the author Philip Caveney (aka Danny Weston) who has come to speak to the second year about his books and how he writes.  His creepy atmospheric novel The Piper was Book of the Week back in November last year (click on the book cover to see what we said about it), and it has just won the Older Readers Category in the 2016 Scottish Children’s Book Amrsparkswards, which just proves that we really can spot those award winners!

His other novel as Danny Weston is Mr Sparks – this week’s Book of the Week.  Have a look tomorrow, when we will have a review posted on this blog.  Both Danny Weston’s books are available to borrow from the Library – they are currently on display on the main issue desk.
