Everneath by Brodi Ashton, reviewed by fab333

EverneathNikki disappeared 6 months ago but to her it was 100 years ago, but now she’s back. And she’s not alone. Nikki has 6 months to live before the Everneath comes for her. She’s desperate to reconnect with those she left behind, especially Jack the boyfriend she loved more than everything. The problem is Cole, an immortal that followed her from the Everneath hoping to take her back with him this time forever. With conflict, fear and romance the story is packed with a roller coaster of emotions so be prepared.

This book is about love, loss and the hope of reclaiming what once was. I would recommend this book for people who like romance and a little supernatural, this book is also a Hades/Persephone retelling as the Everneath is the underworld so people who like the classic tale, this is a book for them.

New books in the library – A Song for Ella Grey, by David Almond

I’m the one who’s left behind. I’m the one to tell the tale. I knew them both… knew how they lived and how they died.

Claire is Ella Grey’s best friend. She’s there when the whirlwind arrives on the scene: catapulted into a North East landscape of gutted shipyards; of high arched bridges and ancient collapsed mines. She witnesses a love so dramatic it is as if her best friend has been captured and taken from her. But the loss of her friend to the arms of Orpheus is nothing compared to the loss she feels when Ella is taken from the world. This is her story – as she bears witness to a love so complete; so sure, that not even death can prove final.

To make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a dangerous traitor is lurking among them, and all fingers point to Orion. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, reviewed by EM

Percy Jackson Lightning

The book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is a tale about pre-teen boy named Perseus Percy Jackson who, on a field trip, ends up finding out that his maths teacher is a fury and his history teacher is a centaur and his best friend is a satyr!

On a trip with his mum Sally, Percy discovers a life changing secret that leads Percy, Grover and his new friend Anna-Beth into adventure.

I thought the book was brilliantly written combining both Greek myths and the hilarity of being a pre-teen  and the testing of Percy`s moral compass. The book was written by Rick Riordan and is the first of two brilliant series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and The Heros of Olympus.

Book of the Week – Ithaka by Adele Geras

imageSome of the best stories in the world come directly from mythology and the very best come from Greek and Norse mythology… Ithaka is the alternative story to the Odyssey – the tale of what was happening at home while Odysseus was taking the long way home after the Trojan wars.

The blurb says:

Ten years have passed since the end of the war in Troy, and Penelope, faithful and devoted wife of Odysseus, has been waiting for her husband to return to Ithaka. The peace of the city has been shattered by the arrival of ill-mannered strangers from the surrounding islands who are vying for Penelope’s hand in marriage. But Penelope is certain that her husband has survived the destruction of Troy and will, with the protection of Pallas Athena, return.

Also caught up in the games orchestrated by the gods is Klymene, a young handmaiden who is like a daughter to Penelope – and who longs for more than friendship from Penelope’s son, Prince Telemachus.
